How to choose?

In the past, it was not unheard of for doctors to drift from one 6-month SHO post to the next, still searching for their calling in life. With the advent of the new Speciality Training (ST) run-through grades, idle drifting is hopefully a thing of the past. It does however mean that knowing vaguely which field you wish to train in is a decision that needs to be made by the time you apply for ST posts, mid-way through F2.

For some help on making this choice, take a look at our guide to choosing a speciality here:

Speciality-based information

This page contains links to the many different distinct specialities, as broadly defined by the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB).

They contain useful information, such as potential training pathways, links and personal experiences of doctors working in those specialities.

If you would like to contribute any material for this section, in particular for those specialities currently empty, then please contact us.
